Welcome to AADARC General Class License Study Group

The Acton Agua Dulce Amateur Radio Club (AADARC) will be conducting a General Class License Study Group that will prepare you to take and pass the FCC written test for your General Class license.

Amateur Radio is a fascinating hobby offering many aspects for enjoyment. Amateur operators range from everyday folks to Nobel prize winners. Amateurs often enjoy more than one aspect of the hobby that includes helping with emergency communication, building equipment, conducting experiments, or simply communicating with others locally or around the world.

The General License dramatically expands the frequencies and modes that the operator can use and is the key to using all the bands on HF. We will be using a study group format rather than lecture. Each of us will assist one another to understand the questions and correct answers as an interactive group.

Here are the important details.

Where:
Acton Agua Dulce Library

When:
The first meeting is Thursday, February 23, 2023. Followed by three additional meetings on:
Thursday, March 2
Wednesday, March 8 (This is a change!)
Thursday, March 16 (Also our normal club meeting night)
Thursday March 30 is exam night

All meetings will start at 6PM.

Cost:
The cost of the study guide is about $25 and is available on Amazon. Here is the link. Make sure the study guide is current. The FCC changes the question pool from time to time so make sure the guide says 2023 on the cover. The exam cost is about $12. The exam fee will be due on the day of the exam. Only checks or cash can be accepted for payment. There is no FCC cost to upgrade your license.

FCC Registration:
To conduct business with the FCC, you must register through FCC COmission REgistration System (CORES) and be assigned an FCC Registration Number (FRN). This number will be used to uniquely identify you in all transactions with the FCC. You will need the FRN in order to take the exam. Link  Please ensure that you are in the FCC database or you won't be able to take the exam.

Next Step:
Contact us and reserve a seat for the group. Provide us your contact information including phone and email address. Reserving a seat in advance is the only way we can ensure space at the library. Once you obtain the study guide please read pages 1-54 before the first group meeting. We will review these pages, discuss the material, and answer any questions that you might have. Remember, it's vital that you read the material BEFORE each meeting.

Meeting week 1 - pages 1-54 - Thursday February 23
Meeting week 2 - pages 55-97 - Thursday March 2
Meeting week 3 - pages 98-152 - Wednesday March 8
Meeting week 4 - pages 153-205 - Thursday March 16
Exam - Thursday March 30

You will also need to register for the exam session here.
